5 Reasons Why International Teaching Exchange is Essential for Your Career in Education

January 5, 2020 by guest Leave a Comment

It can seem overwhelming to distinguish yourself in today’s flooded market of talented educators. Many teachers are now seeking unique experiences to enhance their employability. Here’s why participating in one of Amity’s Exchange Programs is the life-changing opportunity you need to take your teaching career to the next level.

Experience in a U.S. classroom will transform you into a versatile and adaptable educator.

Exposure to new and unique teaching styles is one of the most effective ways for a teacher to hone his or her professional skills and confidence. Teachers are confronted with unique challenges daily. Our Amity alumni frequently express that their training in a U.S. classroom greatly increased their ability to foresee and handle diverse situations and student needs.

You will greatly improve your English language skills.

Nothing will excel your foreign language skills faster than practicing in a real-world setting. While integrating into a new U.S. community and school, you will find it essential to practice English on a daily basis. 100% of Amity participants return to their home countries with vastly improved English language skills and fluency.

You’ll develop cross-cultural awareness.

We live in an increasingly global society. School communities are a microcosm of the greater world, bringing together individuals from different backgrounds and unique cultures. International experience will provide you with cultural intelligence and global competence, which will directly improve your ability to teach increasingly diverse student populations. Your future students, employers, and colleagues will benefit from your widened worldview and cultural understanding.

Experience abroad is a unique resume booster.

Living and teaching abroad requires a great deal of skills that make a prospective employee stand-out. Employers will take note of your flexibility, resourcefulness, maturity and perseverance, all character traits that are essential for moving across the world. Your willingness to leave your comfort zone while seeking an opportunity of professional and personal growth will greatly set you aside from other applicants.

Your professional network will grow tremendously.

Networking is an essential part of career development. Many Amity Alumni stay closely connected with former supervisors, principals, administrators, and colleagues. These individuals often serve as mentors, references, and guides for the remainder of our participants’ careers. Establishing connections writers for hire throughout the world opens the door to unique professional opportunities and resources.

This experience changed my life! Now, I have more dreams and some other goals. I'm so thankful for everything that I've learned. I want to continue growing as a human and as a teacher. The Amity program is one the best things that ever happened to me." - Michelle, 2018-2019 Intern

We have been working with Amity for several years. Learning about different cultures, communities, traditions, music, arts, dances and more, helps our students to see the world as a global place fostering diversity and respect. Having a second adult in the classroom helps our teachers to be able to have more individualized attention to students and work on small groups. Amity has been a wonderful organization to work with, reliable and accessible, bringing highly qualified young people to work in our school."- Maria Buceta Miller, Amity School Coordinator, John Stanford International School

Intern Alumnus Spotlight: Elhadji Abdou Sarr from Intern Alumnus Spotlight: Elhadji Abdou Sarr from Senegal 🇸🇳

Mr. Sarr participated in Amity’s Intern Program in 2023-2024 and recently reached out to us to express his gratitude for the program along with sharing what he has been up to!

“I wanted to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for the incredible opportunity I had through Amity Institute to work at Academy Lafayette in the United States. It was a truly enriching experience that greatly shaped my personal and professional journey.

Since returning to Senegal, I have continued working with children by teaching English to young learners. Inspired by the methods, creativity, and cultural exchange I experienced in the U.S., I have developed engaging English sessions tailored for kids here. It has been both rewarding and exciting to apply what I learned during my time with you.

I’ve attached a few pictures of my students and some of the activities we’ve been doing. I hope this gives you a glimpse of the positive impact your program continues to have—even beyond borders.

Thank you again for your support and for believing in global exchange. I would be happy to stay in touch and share more updates in the future.

Warm regards,
Elhadji Abdou Sarr”
