Hosting a Teacher

Host School and Teacher Position Eligibility Requirements

Through our Teacher Program, Amity can assist a teacher hired directly by your school in obtaining a visa. To be eligible for Amity sponsorship, the school and teaching position must meet the following requirements:

    • The school must be an accredited primary or secondary school.

    • Teaching position must be at the primary or secondary level.  This includes Kindergarten teaching positions (students aged 5 years and older).

    • Positions teaching in Pre-kindergarten language immersion programs offered as regular course of study by an accredited primary school are also accepted.

  • Teaching position must be full-time and paid. The teacher must be compensated the same salary rate as a U.S. teacher in their position with the same background and experience.

  • Teacher must teach an academic subject or teach in their specialization (for example, special education).  Teacher must follow an established curriculum.

While Amity is not an International Teacher placement agency, we occasionally receive resumes/CVs from exemplary educators who are seeking support from us as a J1 visa sponsor. We are happy to pass along these resumes to U.S. schools that are considering hiring an International Teacher. For more information regarding this opportunity, please email Rocelle Cruz, Executive Assistant, at RCruz@amity.org.

Schools need to be prepared to:

  • Welcome the teacher and arrange pick-up at the airport or agreed upon location

  • Offer information on their local community and location of important organizations (bank, Social Security office, hospital, police and fire stations, food/grocery stores)

  • Provide customary professional training

  • Assist with U.S. state certification/licensure process (if required)

  • Assign a mentor teacher to assist with initial adjustment matters

  • Assist with finding initial temporary housing at the teacher’s expense

  • Offer local support throughout this program

  • Provide access to opportunities to facilitate cross-cultural exchange

The Amity Annual Administrative Fee is paid per school year. This fee may be paid by or shared between the applicant and/or school. These fees are subject to review and adjustment as deemed appropriate. The fee is determined by the teacher’s year of participation in Amity’s Program.

2022-23 School Administrative Fees

    • Year 1: $1500
    • Year 2: $1000
    • Year 3: $750
    • Year 4: $1000
    • Year 5: $750

Please note: Administrative Fees are non-refundable.

This experience changed my life! Now, I have more dreams and some other goals. I'm so thankful for everything that I've learned. I want to continue growing as a human and as a teacher. The Amity program is one the best things that ever happened to me." - Michelle, 2018-2019 Intern

We have been working with Amity for several years. Learning about different cultures, communities, traditions, music, arts, dances and more, helps our students to see the world as a global place fostering diversity and respect. Having a second adult in the classroom helps our teachers to be able to have more individualized attention to students and work on small groups. Amity has been a wonderful organization to work with, reliable and accessible, bringing highly qualified young people to work in our school."- Maria Buceta Miller, Amity School Coordinator, John Stanford International School

“I thought I'd share what happened on my birthda “I thought I'd share what happened on my birthday, which is representative of my internship life and my life with my host family so far!

My host family prepared a big box of doughnuts for me to take to school to share with my colleagues! While I was handing out the doughnuts, I wished everyone a happy Lunar New Year and they wished me a happy birthday. The students at school also came to say happy birthday to me during break time and even prepared cards for me!

1/25 was the fourth day of Chinese New Year, so my host family held a " Lunar New Year themed" birthday party for me. We invited other interns to celebrate with us. I was asked to rest in my room while my host family and intern friends decorated the dining room and prepared the food! They even decorated my cake! It was a big surprise for me and made me feel so happy!”

Happy belated birthday, Masako! 🥳We’re happy to see that you’re enjoying your internship and having a wonderful time with your host-family and fellow interns!

What these four wonderful people brought me is beyond words, I will never forget what they mean to me.
More than the Amity program, the beginning of a lifetime adventure...
I adore you so. 💚🌈

I want to share this new experience that I had with my Host Family as well with another Intern Laia from Spain. We went skiing and I could say that was one of the most challenging and fun things I’ve done because I never practiced skiing before and my host mother and Laia taught me how to do it."

Way to go, Glenda and Laia!⛷️❄️
